"Dance like no one's watching"

PERFOMANCE HIGHLIGHTS

Success in learning frequently depends on finding the right Dance Teacher; someone who knows the subject well and understands how to inspire others. My teaching style focuses on skills training, but also emphasizes self-exploration and discovering a passion for something new. Take a look at some performance highlights from our spring dance concert!

What Makes a Well Rounded Dancer?

Dance is an art form of many genres. Well rounded dancers don't only focus on one area, or genre. They engage and train in multiple areas to fine tune their craft! At Sylvan, we enhance our learning experience by incorporating as many genres of dance as possible into the dance curriculum.

Exposure

It is important that we expose our students to as many genres of dance as possible because we want our scholars to develop a love for the performing arts. The partnership between Sylvan and the Move/Dance! Program with the National Black Arts Festival has contributed to the success of the dance department by providing specialized teaching artists who engage students in dance styles and techniques such as tap, modern, jazz and social dances. Here, we have Ms. Chelsea Long working on a beginner jazz dance with 6th grade dance scholars.

Exploration

Students are afforded the opportunity to explore their creativity to create choreographic pieces that they can be proud of. They work together to accomplish the common goal: make the audience feel the dance.
